Mamata Banerjee makes theme songs for Durga Puja

Kolkata, Sep 28 West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has made the theme song for a famous city puja since theme music has turned into another pattern among group pujas in the city.

The song- "Boichitrer muktoy gantha ekotar monihar" (the gem of solidarity is sewed with a pearl necklace of assorted variety) - is being played at the 'Suruchi Sangha' puja, champ of different honors.

singer Shreya Ghosal lends her voice for the signature tune that has been created by Jeet Gannguly.

The CM has posted the video of the theme song on her official Facebook page and shared the connections on her Twitter handle.

The CM had also composed lyrics for 'Suruchi Sangha' in the past.

Music composer and singer Jeet Gannguly had been forming music for the 'Suruchi Sangha's puja signature tune for the recent years.

"I have a bonding with them and each Bengali feels associated with Durga Puja celebrations," Gannguly had told recently when asked about his 'musical association' with 'Suruchi Sangha'.

As theme music becomes popular with Durga Puja advisory groups, artist Soumitra Chatterjee has recited a few lines - 'Ami Sei Diganto Periye Asa Uttaradhikar' (I have strolled through the past, I am the light carrier) being played at the 'Kumartuli Sarbojonin'.

"This presentation reflects the story of potters of Bengal, of Kumartuli throughout the hundreds of years," he said.

The 'Kumartuli Sarbojonin' representative Debashis Bhattacharya stated, "we have set another pattern by presenting presentations as theme music rather than a melody and we are favored to have Soumitra Chatterjee. The Bengali revellers are valuing our efforts."

The 'Tridhara Sammilani', another multiple award-winning puja in the city, has drawn in vocalist and music arranger Joy Sarkar for its signature melody.

"The task was challenging. As I needed to pass on the temperament of the puja theme in a span of two-three minutes," Sarkar, related with many Bengali movies as music director/lyricist, said.
