1.27 lakh more houses centre approves for urban poor

New Delhi, Jun 22 The Centre has approved the development of 1.27 lakh more houses for urban poor under its moderate lodging plan with a speculation of over Rs 6,500 crore.

With the most recent endorsement, the aggregate number of houses authorized under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) has achieved 20.95 lakh since the launch of the plan two years back, the Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ministry said in a release today.

The central help for the new approvals will be Rs 1,915 crore.

In the most recent round, Uttar Pradesh has the most elevated approval for the development of 70,784 houses with a venture of Rs 3,528 crore.

The central help will be Rs 1,062 crore for the development of these houses with every recipient getting Rs 1.50 lakh.

The aggregate number of houses authorised for Uttar Pradesh now remains at 1.12 lakh.

Karnataka has been authorised 56,281 houses with a venture of Rs 2,950 crore and a central help of Rs 844 crore.

Surprisingly, 609 houses have been sanctioned for Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, with a investment of Rs 54 crore.
