Devendro, Ankush in finals of Mongolian boxing competition

New Delhi, Jun 24 Commonwealth Games silver-medallist L Devendro Singh (52kg) progressed to the final along with the young Ankush Dahiya (60kg) on another mixed day for Indian boxers at the Ulaanbaatar Cup in Mongolia today.

Devendro vanquished Mongolia's Gandulam Mungun-Erdene in a consistent decision, while Ankush, a previous Asian youth silver-medallist, showed signs of improvement of Russia's Radna Tsibikov in a part choice.

Be that as it may, three others - K Shyam Kumar (49kg), Mohammed Hussamuddin (56kg) and Priyanka Chaudhary (60kg) - lost their separate elimination round sessions to settle to bronze medals.

In tomorrow's final bouts, Devendro, setting up his best execution of the year up until now, will be up against Indonesia's Aldoms Suguro.

The 25-year-old former Asian silver-medallist has looked sharp in the competition with enhanced wellness having a significant effect to his execution.

The 19-year-old Ankush, then again, will battle it out with Korean Man Choe Chol. This is Ankush's second international tournament since making the move from youth to world class level before the end of last year.

Shyam Kumar, a gold-medallist from the current year's King's Cup in Thailand, lost a split decision to Filipino Rogen Ladon.

Hussamuddin was beaten by Mongolia's Bat-Ochir Tumurkhuyag in his semifinal round session.

In the women's draw, Priyanka lost to Korea's Hye Song Choe.
